Drilling in tiles

It can be useful to install hooks or trays on the walls of your kitchen or bathroom. But drilling in tiles requires a careful touch.

How to proceed:

Make sure that there are no cables or pipes behind the location where you plan to drill. For this purpose we recommend using a metal finder.

If possible, drill through the joint where two tiles join.

If you must drill through a tile, first carefully scratch the tile with a nail or a punch to create a rough surface from which the drill will not slip as easily.

Use new masonry drill bits or a specialised tile drill bit.

Remove the dust from the holes with a vacuum cleaner (a dust blower or simply by blowing). Be careful to avoid getting dust in your eyes.

Insert the fixing and tap lightly with a hammer to make sure that the fixing is properly seated in the hole. Insert the screw and drive it into the fixing.

Equipment required:

To drill the holes, you'll need your Bosch impact drill.
In addition: Masonry drill bit
(diameter 4 to 6 mm) or
tile drill bit
plastic fixing
(diameter 4 to 6 mm) and appropriate screws (see the manufacturer's specifications on the fixing's packaging).

Attention

switch off the impact mechanism.
If your wall is made of concrete, you can switch the impact drilling  impact drilling back on after penetrating the tile.
