The common fixing is the all-purpose version made of
plastic, also called the 'Wall Plug'.
When used in concrete or hard masonry, it expands to
create a snug fit. In hollow cavity masonry or
prefabricated slab materials like plasterboard or wood
materials, it fastens to the material when the screw is
inserted.
But, other fixing types are also suitable for use with
hollow cavities, such as toggle or spring fixings made
of plastic or hollow cavity fixings made of metal. These
types have enlarged surface areas, which makes them
better able to distribute the forces acting upon them.
If you plan to hang heavy objects on a wall or from a
ceiling, you would be better served by these specialised
fixings. |
