Removing old tiles from the wall
and fitting new tiles

If you want to give your kitchen, toilet or bathroom a new look, you can use the BOSCH Hammer with a tile chisel to remove the old tiles without a great deal of effort.

How to proceed:

Set the rotary hammer to rotation stop and apply the chisel at an angle of 15° to a joint in such a way that the chisel surface makes contact under the tiles. You can then begin chiselling.

When all the tiles have been removed, remove any adhesive residue with a scraper or a sander so that the wall is as flat as possible.

Apply filler to any damaged areas and let it dry overnight. If the filler is not completely dry, cracks can come about and the tiles come loose.

When the filler is completely dry, sand it down. Use sanding paper with 80 or 100 grit.

Before you apply tile adhesive, walls must be primed with a suitable sealant or stabilising solution. For this, they must be dust-free - the best thing is simply to use a vacuum cleaner. Use the foam rubber roller for priming. Allow the sealant to dry for at least one hour. - Set out your tiling by offering up the new tiles to the wall so that you can see where the tiles will need to be cut to size and where they will meet corners etc. - It is important to have a level reference edge to like a wooden batten attached to the wall beneath the lowest row of tiles so that you can tile from the bottom upwards with all the tiles level. - When tiles need to be cut, straight cuts can be made using a simple tile cutting tool which scores and snaps the tile to the required size. For more complicated ‘cut out’ shapes a more specialised tool may be required, like a high speed rotary cutting tool.

Now use the trowel to apply the tile adhesive and then used a toothed spatula to spread the adhesive base. This creates a grooved pattern that holds the tiles better. Let the tile adhesive dry for two to three minutes.

You can now fit the tiles. So that the space between the tiles is always the same, place small spacers made of plastic in the joints. Let everything dry overnight.

The next day, remove the spacers.

Now apply the grout using a spatula or grouting tool. Wait five to ten minutes until the grout is dry. Then rub the tiles with a dry cloth. The jointing cement should dry out overnight before you remove the residues from the tiles. To do so, simply use water with a few drops of detergent or so-called cement film.
