If you want to sand down wood or paint, use red:Wood sanding belts. For stainless steel and steel, use blue:Metal sanding belts. When sanding, start with a coarse grit of 40. Rule of thumb: with each new sanding run you should select a grit that is twice as fine, example grit sequence: 40 80 180.
