Giving old furniture a new shine

Do you like old furniture? They can be bought at low prices on flea markets or at auctions. However, they are often in very bad condition, above all their surfaces. The BOSCH Orbital Sander can be used to give the wood its original shine again.

Proceed as follows:

Sand down the paint or varnish from your piece of furniture with the BOSCH Orbital Sander. To do this, use a red:Wood sanding sheet with a grit of 100. A BOSCH Delta Sander can be useful if you need to sand in hard-to-reach areas.

After sanding, wipe down the whole surface of the furniture using a damp sponge.

Once the wood has dried, go over it again with the BOSCH Orbital Sander. This time however, use a red:Wood sanding sheet with a grit of 240.

Once you have finished the second sanding run, water the surface again using a damp sponge.

Now perform the third sanding run. Use sanding paper with a grit of 240 again.

Brush the surface clean using a soft handbrush. Now you can apply wax, paint or varnish depending on what prefer.

Once you have varnished or painted your piece of furniture, you can apply some patina. This makes it look like a real antique. Leave the patina to soak in briefly and then wipe it down using a cloth. In this way, the surface is made irregularly darker and the colour collects in the corners and recesses.
